Hinerupe

This book recounts early tribal history associated with the Ngāti Porou tipuna, Hinerupe. The authors describe the important whakapapa, relationships and tribal histories that saw Hinerupe ascend to a position of leadership and the legacy that she left her descendants. Included also, are harrowing accounts of the Ngā Puhi invasion early in the 19th century.

Written by Kararaina Ngatai-Melbourne and Pohatu Poutu, Hinerupe is told in Ngāti Porou mita. The story has been written as a chapter book and intended for use with learners in years  7 and 8 (and beyond). It has been illustrated photographically by Kamaea Henderson from locations within the Matakaoa district.
